SUMMARY:Men's Health Month: The Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Join The 100 for a Community Conversation as part our the 100’s Take Action for Health Initiative\, happening live at Cars\, Community & Care. \nIt’s a day of health and fun.  Car displays\, food trucks and vendors for men of all ages are part of the experience during Cars\, Community & Care event [presented by KCMO’s Healthy IQ program\, Samuel U. He completed his internship and residency at Emory University in Atlanta\, Georgia and then served as a fellow in cardiology at Duke University with an emphasis in clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He was the President and CEO of Fort Norfolk Medical Associates from 2010 through 2023. Dr. Newby currently practices with Bon Secours Cardiology Medical Group. He also serves as Market Director of Community Health Improvement and Engagement for Bon Secours Mercy Health\, where his primary role is to aid in the development of programs that address conditions that disproportionately affect under-resourced and underrepresented communities. \nHarold “Woody” Neighbors\, Ph.D.\, Dr. Neighbors obtained his PhD in social psychology in 1982 from the University of Michigan\, Ann Arbor. From 1982-1985 Dr. Neighbors conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute for Social Research (Survey Research Center) where he worked on the ground-breaking National Survey of Black Americans. Dr. Neighbors is presently professor emeritus at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Dr. Neighbors studies racial and gender disparities in help-seeking for mental health problems and the (mis)diagnosis of mental disorder among Black Americans. He is now the Dean’s Senior Advisor for Research and Research Training at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. \nCollin Mays\, a prominent figure in local government and a dedicated philanthropist\, hails from Michigan. He is renowned for his role as the founder and president of LMS Solutions\, a strategic planning consulting firm that aids local governments and nonprofits. Additionally\, Collin is passionate about health and fitness. Over the course of 5 years he lost 200 pounds and now encourages others to take action to address their health. SUMMARY:Mentor Me! I Can & I Will
DESCRIPTION:Mentor Me is a call to action for Black men to make a commitment to mentor and support Black boys. \n“It’s easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” Federick Douglass\, 1818-1895 \nNow more than ever\, the development of Black boys and young men is critical to the health and wellness of our nation. Mentors play an important role in their success. \nThere are a number of barriers preventing some Black males from achieving optimal success in their education\, health\, social emotional learning\, careers\, financial literacy and more. Personal circumstances and societal challenges create the urgency to rally Black men to get involved at earlier stages of their lives. \nJoin Our Health Matters as we raise awareness about the value and benefits resulting when Black men mentor. Featured guest speaker\, Louis Negrón\, Sr.\, Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta delivers the keynote address. Also attending are members of the Kansas City chapter of 100 Black Men and members of Black fraternities and more.
